The piece
Single-slab serving paddle hand-shaped from quartersawn white oak. The handle is hand-rasped to a smooth contour that finds the web of your thumb without effort, then through-drilled and fitted with a vegetable-tanned leather hang loop so it lives on the wall when it's not on the table. Edge-grain construction for a lighter board you can carry one-handed loaded with a roast. The closed grain of white oak resists moisture and shrugs off the occasional spill.
